Nothing is too expensive for Harvard-Westlake. While most other teams run through a paper sign to fire up players just before opening kickoff, the Wolverines paid $1,200 for a reusable Velcro sign.

The Wolverines also have two $1,200 Cool Zones that blow water and cool air on players during a hot day.

Receiver Kenny Garcia of St. Francis deserves a salute for calling the play of the week.

In the final two minutes, St. Francis had fourth and 10 from the 50 and trailed Harvard-Westlake, 19-14. Coach Bill Redell wanted to try a long pass for a touchdown, but Garcia suggested going for the first down.

Redell changed the play. The Golden Knights picked up a first down on their way to a touchdown and a 22-19 victory.

“The kid is smarter than a 58-year-old coach,” Redell said.
