OCC Overcomes Fullerton in Volleyball

Beth Waterman had 26 kills to help Orange Coast defeat Fullerton, 8-15, 15-11, 15-6, 15-9, in an Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball match Wednesday at Orange Coast.

The Pirates improved to 8-5, 3-2 in conference.

Kathryn Moseley had 16 kills for Fullerton (5-5, 0-5).

In other conference matches:

Cypress 3, Santa Ana 0--Heather Storey had 21 kills for host Cypress (7-3, 4-1), which won, 15-3, 15-6, 15-8. Santa Ana is 7-3, 2-3.

Golden West 3, Saddleback 0--Saddleback led each of the first two games, 6-1, before Golden West came back to win both and the match, 15-7, 15-8, 15-4. Julie Renfrow had 13 kills for visiting Golden West (11-0, 5-0).

Irvine Valley 3, Riverside 0--Shannon Llamas had 11 kills for visiting Irvine Valley (8-1, 4-1), which won, 15-11, 15-5, 15-10.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s golf:

Orange Coast wins--Jennifer Tunzi shot 11-over 83 at Cypress Navy Golf Course to lead the Pirates to a 10-stroke victory over Saddleback, 359-369.

Medalist Hye Joon Jung shot 76 for Fullerton, which was third at 378. Karlie Ward shot 85 for Saddleback.

Cypress was fourth at 385 and Irvine Valley was fifth at 415.

In South Coast Conference men’s water polo:

Fullerton 22, Cerritos 6--Tyler Ray scored six goals for Fullerton (14-2-1, 4-0).

Golden West 23, El Camino 3--Golden West took leads of 4-0 and 11-1 on the way to an easy victory. Lorenzo Voutsinos had four goals for the Rustlers (19-1-1, 4-0).

In South Coast Conference women’s water polo:

Cerritos 11, Fullerton 7--Katy Hayden scored six goals for the visiting Hornets (6-12-2, 2-3).

Golden West 31, El Camino 1--The Rustlers set a school record with their 31 goals as they clinched top seeding for the South Coast Conference tournament. The previous school record for goals in a game was 27, set in 1997.

Chelsea Rowlands had seven goals for Golden West (20-1-1, 5-0).

In a nonconference game:

Saddleback 10, San Diego Mesa 6--Kristin Miller had four first-half goals for host Saddleback (12-6).

In South Coast Conference wrestling:

Golden West 37, San Bernardino 12--Chris Ilustre of Golden West (7-4, 3-1) scored a technical fall with his 20-5 victory over Mark Snell at 141 pounds.

In the Western State Conference:

Cuesta 44, Cypress 3--Jason Morales won at 141 pounds, 9-3, for host Cypress (1-5, 0-1).
