PALMDALE — After a 20-minute car chase, sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Friday in Palmdale who they said may be a suspect in Tuesday’s shooting of an armored truck guard in Long Beach.
In a scene captured by television cameras, the man abandoned his Chevrolet Suburban at the Antelope Valley Mall at about 5:20 p.m. and fled on foot. He was apprehended a few minutes later.
The fleeing suspect left behind a 2-year-old boy wearing a plaid shirt and a baseball cap, said Lt. Steven Fredericks of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station, which is investigating the case.
“We think [the boy] may be his son,” Fredericks said, adding that the child was unharmed.
The man, described by police as an Antelope Valley resident in his 20s, was arrested for child endangerment and evading arrest in a chase across Palmdale that reached speeds of 85 mph, Fredericks said.
Authorities sought to determine late Friday whether the man was a suspect in the Long Beach shooting that left a 24-year-old guard in critical condition.
