Chatsworth Rallies to Beat Taft

Chatsworth High’s pinpoint serving was more dormant than domineering in a girls’ volleyball match against Taft, but it did make an appearance at an ideal time for the Chancellors.

With its arrival came a 15-3, 11-15, 14-16, 15-5, 15-5 victory at Chatsworth Thursday and a West Valley League championship. Not to mention a likely seeding among the top three teams in the City Section playoffs.

Carlie Allison had four aces during a 7-0 run in the fifth game to give the Chancellors (12-0, 9-0 in league play) a 12-4 lead.

Breeana Rahn, an outside hitter for Chatsworth, played an important role, delivering six of her 14 kills in the fifth game. A fast-paced, pre-match warm-up in an annex gym also helped the Chancellors.

“I figured that kind of a warm-up, with a lot of energy and excitement, would bring them out,” Coach Bud Dow of Chatsworth said. “It worked.”

Trisha Bratford had 27 kills and 22 hitting errors in a whopping 70 attempts for the Toreadors (10-2, 7-2), who did not have any other players with over six kills.
