* THE PROVEN: Although seniors Krystal Shearer of Alemany High, Courtney Renfro of Crescenta Valley and Mollie Begalla of Agoura will play on their school’s boys’ teams next spring, they’ll be eligible to play in the Southern Section girls’ individual championships in November and, should they qualify, in the CIF-Women’s Southern California Golf Assn. championships in December. Shearer was among three girls to shoot a two-under-par 70 in the section championships at Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs in November, but she was defeated by champion Young Pak of Cerritos Gahr on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff. Renfro shot an 81 in the section finals and an 85 in the CIF-WSCGA tournament. Begalla had an 82 in the section championships and an 88 in the CIF-WSCGA championships.

* THE PROMISING: Senior Marissa Sepe of Agoura was unsuccessful in her bid to make the Agoura boys’ team last season, but she’ll play on the Charger girls’ squad this year. Coach Gary Gray said she can shoot in the low 40s for nine holes.

* FAST FACT: La Reina will field a girls’ golf team for the sixth consecutive season. The Regents played against boys’ teams in their first four seasons before girls’ golf became a sanctioned section sport last year.
