Mike Holmgren, the first-year coach-general manager, of the Seattle Seahawks said he is prepared to “tweak” an offer to end the holdout of star receiver Joey Galloway.

The Seahawks’ last offer to Galloway, 27, was $35 million over seven years, including a $7-million signing bonus. He was scheduled to be paid $1.58 million in the final year of a five-year contract.

“I’m willing to tweak here now because I want this thing to get done,” Holmgren said.

Galloway’s agent, Eric Metz, said Tuesday that Galloway would end his holdout if the Seahawks would promise not to use their franchise player designation to limit Galloway’s options after the season.

“I would definitely do that if you would promise me you’ll sign,” Holmgren said in response.

Metz, who plans to meet with Seahawk negotiator Mike Reinfeldt on Friday in Pittsburgh, emphasized that there had been no new offer from the Seahawks and no deal was imminent.

The Kansas City Chiefs traded cornerback Robert Williams to the San Francisco 49ers for a draft choice in 2000.

The Chiefs also re-signed four-year veteran cornerback Juran Bolden, 25, to a two-year contract.

Williams, 22, was a fifth-round draft choice from North Carolina in 1998. He played in every game last season, including one start.

San Diego running back Natrone Means, who suffered a twisted left ankle and bruised right knee in Sunday’s victory at Cincinnati, expects to play Sunday in the Chargers’ home opener against the Indianapolis Colts. . . . Former Florida linebacker Jevon Kearse, now with the Jacksonville Jaguars, says he was embarrassed by accusations, and his eventual sworn admission, that he took money from sports agent Tank Black while he was still with the Gators. “I was kind of embarrassed after I left the University of Florida,” Kearse said. “It’s something that shouldn’t have happened, and if I went back, I wouldn’t do it again.” Black, who has denied the accusations, is facing revocation of his agents’ license for three years.
