As days pass, it is becoming more likely Bobby Braswell will remain men’s basketball coach at Cal State Northridge.

Dick Dull, Northridge athletic director, said he has had preliminary discussions with Braswell about signing the four-year Matador coach and Northridge alum to a contract extension. Dull said he hopes the matter will be resolved within the next month.

“My interest and goal is to keep him here,” Dull said. “I believe in him. He and I have met and have talked generally. We need to sit down and do the math.”

Braswell, 37, led Northridge to its best record in 22 seasons, coming within seconds of winning a Big Sky Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament. Braswell was a finalist for the coaching vacancy at Oregon State last month, finishing second to Ritchie McKay of Colorado State.

Braswell also was approached by Cal State Fullerton but said he is not interested. Braswell was in Indianapolis this week for the NCAA Final Four and unavailable for comment.

Dull said he has received no other inquiries from schools interested in pursuing Braswell.

Braswell has a career record of 65-23 at Northridge.
