Irvine Valley Rallies for First Conference Win

Michelle Bye singled in two runs to spark a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth to lead Irvine Valley to an 8-6 victory over Golden West in Orange Empire Conference softball Wednesday.

Jocelyn Bernal doubled in two runs in the bottom of the third.

Lindsay Cornell pitched seven innings, giving up nine hits and six runs, four of them earned. The Lasers are 3-20, 1-16.

Golden West dropped to 13-17-1, 5-9 in conference.

In other conference games:

Fullerton 2, Santa Ana 0--Erin Kelly pitched a three-hitter, striking out six and not giving up a walk, for visiting Fullerton (15-1 in conference). Angie Veronesi doubled in one run and Lisa Schiro singled in the other run for the Hornets.

Cypress 8, Orange Coast 0 (5, mercy)--Lisa Monreal pitched four innings, giving up two hits and striking out four for host Cypress. Erica Duncan had two hits, three RBIs and two runs for Cypress.

Cypress is 24-6-2, 13-3.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:

Orange Coast 3, San Diego Mesa 0--Nate Hallett had 16 kills to lead Orange Coast to a 15-9, 15-7, 16-14 victory.

Josh Miller had 12 kills and Scott Alley had 25 assists for OCC (16-3, 10-3).
