Loara’s Acuna Signs to Play Men’s Soccer at UC Irvine

Dardo Acuna, a midfielder from Loara High, has signed to play men’s soccer at UC Irvine.

Acuna, had 19 goals and 10 assists for the Saxons, who finished fourth in the Empire League.

BASKETBALL

The Tustin Unified School District’s Board of Education on Monday night approved the hiring of Richard Bossenmeyer as boys’ basketball coach at Tustin High.

Bossenmeyer, 34, compiled a 90-59 record at Orange High in six seasons from 1990-94 and 1995-97.

Jason Whieldon, The Times’ Orange County back of the year, heads the list of players selected to play for the North in the Orange County all-star football game July 14 at Orange Coast College.

Troy’s John Turek will coach the North and Dana Hills’ Scott Orloff will coach the South.

Concordia softball pitcher Andrea Castillo, a freshman, and Eagle baseball pitcher Matt Broesamle, a senior, earned Golden State Athletic Conference and NAIA Region II players of the week honors.
