Royal Flushed by Victory Over Loyola in Five Games

David Russell delivered a career-high 31 kills and Royal High defeated Loyola, 15-10, 9-15, 5-15, 15-9, 15-6, in a nonleague boys’ volleyball match Wednesday night at Royal.
The Highlanders (12-1), ranked No. 7 in Southern Section Division I, trailed in the fourth game, 7-0, but scored 30 of the next 38 points to win the final two games.
Loyola (11-1) is ranked No. 2 in Division I.
Westlake def. Thousand Oaks, 12-15, 15-11, 12-15, 15-9, 16-14--Wade Carr had 23 kills and 14 digs for Westlake in a Marmonte League match at Thousand Oaks.
Ian Larson had 15 kills and 19 digs, Chris Gleason had 24 digs and seven blocks, and Kevin Waters had 53 assists for Westlake (11-2, 6-2).
Brock Redmond had 23 kills and nine digs, Danny Raven had 16 kills and six blocks, and John Mayer contributed 61 assists for Thousand Oaks (5-7, 3-6).
Quartz Hill def. Palmdale, 15-2, 15-7, 15-5--Jared Corpening had 17 kills for host Quartz Hills (7-1, 3-0) in a Golden League match.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
The Master’s 10, Biola 9--Mike Ploharz struck out six in seven innings and Mike Wertz hit a three-run double in a seven-run eighth for host Master’s (26-5) in a nonconference game.
Jon Rouwenhurst hit two home runs and had three runs batted in for Biola.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Antelope Valley 10, Rio Hondo 2--Jennifer Smith hit a grand slam and had five RBIs in a Foothill Conference game at Antelope Valley (29-9, 8-1) called after five innings because of the eight-run rule.
