Nothing but the Best for the National Classic

Wellington of Florida, the top-ranked high school baseball team in the nation according to Baseball America, will be in Orange County on Monday for the opening of the National Classic tournament.

Wellington will battle 15 other top teams, including three from the county, in the four-day tournament.

The tournament concludes Thursday with the championship game at 7 p.m. at Titan Field. Admission is free at all games except those at Titan Field and Champions’ Park. Admission at Titan Field is $4 for adults and $2 for students. Parking is $1.50. Admission at Champions’ Park is $3 for adults and $1 for students.

Notes

In first-round games Monday, Fountain Valley, ranked No. 16 by Baseball America, plays Taylorsville (Utah) at noon at Champions’ Park in Placentia; Esperanza meets Newburgh (N.Y.) Free Academy at 7 p.m. at Champions’ Park, and El Dorado takes on North Rockland (N.Y.) at 7 p.m. at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Field.

Other games: Palm Bay (Fla.) vs. Shadow Mountain (Ariz.) at 11 a.m. at Esperanza; Silverado (Nev.) vs. Woodland (Calif.) at 11 a.m. at El Dorado; Clovis vs. Gulliver Prep (Fla.) at 2:30 p.m. at Esperanza; Riverside Poly vs. Cooper City (Fla.) at 3:30 p.m. at Champions’ Park, and Delbarton (N.J.) vs. Wellington at 2:30 p.m. at El Dorado.
