Oxnard Man Hurt in Rollover Crash
An Oxnard man was hospitalized with major injuries Friday after he was thrown from a vehicle that rolled after it was cut off by a van on California 126, the CHP said.
Luis Palomar, 21, was airlifted to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia, where he remains with skull and nose fractures, Officer Denny Drummond said.
Palomar was riding in a 1994 Ford Explorer driven by 19-year-old Dianne Torres of Oxnard. The Explorer was traveling eastbound in the fast lane about 9 a.m. near Newhall Ranch Road when a van attempted to pass it on the right. The driver cut Torres off, she lost control of the vehicle and it rolled, Drummond said.
The white work van was driven by a man of medium build in his early 40s, he said.
Palomar, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. Torres and passengers Brenda Dominguez, 15, Corrina Torres, 18, Sandra Medrano, 19, and Elizabeth Lemus, 19, were taken to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital complaining of pain. In addition, Dominguez had a broken left collarbone, Drummond said.
The CHP shut down California 126 in both directions for about 25 minutes, he said.
