* Shane Hackett of Verdugo Hills High, who has the second-best boys’ pole vault in the nation this year, signed a letter of intent with UCLA on Friday.

Hackett, defending City Section champion, cleared a school record of 16-4 to win the Flo Jo Arcadia Invitational at Citrus College on Saturday night and move into a tie for fifth on the all-time region list.

It was the third school record of the season for Hackett, who had a career best of 15-4 at the start of the year and tied for sixth in the state championships last year.

EQUESTRIAN

* The Interscholastic Equestrian League will hold its fourth and final show of the season from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today at Atlasta Ranch in Newhall.

Champions of individual and team competitions will be decided on the varsity, junior varsity, freshman and novice levels. More than 150 riders from Los Angeles and Ventura counties will compete in jumper, hunter, equitation and dressage events.

Admission is free. Atlasta Ranch is located on Aden Avenue. Directions: Take San Fernando Road west, turn right on 13th Street, turn left on 12th Street and left on Aden Avenue.

GOLF

* The Young Life Team Challenge will be held May 1 at Robinson Ranch in Canyon Country.

Proceeds will spread Young Life in the Santa Clarita high schools and send teenagers to camps sponsored by the international Christian outreach organization.

Foursome sponsorships are available at $1,200 and individual players are welcome.

Among the hole-in-one prizes offered will be a Jaguar from Galpin Motors and $10,000.
