Susanna Lingman of Woodbridge High and Amber Tantee of Dana Hills advanced with first-round victories in the girls’ 18 division of the Easter Bowl junior tennis tournament at the Riviera Resort and Racquet Club in Palm Springs.
Lingman defeated Jessica Ferguson of Conroe, Texas, 6-3, 6-3, and Tantee defeated Alicia Salas of Englewood, Colo., 6-3, 6-1.
Villa Park’s Arpi Kojian lost to Aimee Smith of Norcross, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, and Saddleback’s Kim Nguyen lost to Lindsay Williams of Beverly Hills, Mich., 6-4, 6-0.
Miscellany
Rookie Misty May, teamed with Holly McPeak, won her first pro beach volleyball title Sunday as the duo defeated second-seeded Lisa Arce and Barbra Fontana, 15-8, in the final of the Beach Volleyball Olympic Challenge Series event at Deerfield Beach, Fla.
May, formerly of Long Beach State and Newport Harbor High, shared the $20,000 first-prize with McPeak.
Dax Holdren and Todd Rogers defeated Bill Boullianne and Ian Clark, 15-9, to win the men’s title. Dain Blanton, formerly of Laguna Beach High, and partner Eric Fonoimoana finished third.
