A 16-year-old suspect in a residential robbery that turned violent was arrested Tuesday at his home after police traced his license plate.

Two other teens believed involved in the incident were later arrested in Northridge, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Pat Butler.

Three teenagers broke into a home in the 17000 block of Burton Street in Van Nuys at 3:10 p.m. When the owner returned home, one of the intruders attacked him with a golf club, police said. The victim’s arm was broken, and watches, jewelry and an antique gun were taken, police said.

As the suspects fled in a Ford van, the victim jotted down the license plate number, which police quickly traced to a residence in the 18800 block of Sylvan Street in Reseda.

Police found the van parked next to the house. They arrested the suspect without incident just before 5 p.m. and the stolen items were later recovered, police said.

“It just seems kind of stupid that he used his own car,” Butler said.

The suspects were booked on suspicion of robbery and may be charged with assault, Butler said.
