Parris Lights Up El Camino Real in a Two-Hitter, 5-0

Matt Parris pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11 in Highland High’s 5-0 victory over El Camino Real on Thursday in the Bishop Gorman tournament at Cimarron Memorial High in Las Vegas.

El Camino Real (13-3), ranked No. 3 in region by The Times, had only two singles and two walks against Parris (5-2), a senior right-hander. Parris struck out the side in order in the seventh, finishing with four consecutive strikeouts.

Highland (11-5) had nine hits, three by Fred Rico, including a double. Ryan Torres had two hits, including a double.

Chatsworth 8, Santa Monica 6--Ryan Barba hit a home run and a double for Chatsworth in a victory at the Bishop Gorman tournament.

Jared Halpert had two hits and drove in two runs for Chatsworth (13-1-1).

Sylmar 3, Tustin 1--Jamie Mah hit a two-out, two-run triple in the eighth inning in the Bishop Gorman tournament.

Ivan Lopez (4-3) pitched a six-hitter for Sylmar (10-6), striking out four and walking one.

Chaminade 4, Carson 0--Bobby Paschal pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts in his first shutout of the season for the Eagles (12-5) in the Bishop Gorman tournament.

Paschal (3-0) had two of the Eagles’ 10 hits, and Mike Nesbit added two hits and an RBI.

Granada Hills 14, Hillcrest (Utah) 5; Granada Hills 9, Las Vegas Western 7--Jon Voita had 11 runs batted in and the Highlanders won two games at the Bishop Gorman tournament.

Voita had nine RBIs against Hillcrest, hitting a grand slam and a three-run home run.

Casey Shaw added a three-run home run for the Highlanders.

Against Western, Voita’s two-run double keyed a six-run second inning for Granada Hills (9-8).

Birmingham 6, Viewmont (Utah) 5--Lucio Tapia and Raul Campos hit run-scoring singles for the Patriots with two out in the ninth in the Bishop Gorman tournament.

Tapia finished with a two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for Birmingham (12-6).

Kennedy 14, Poly 1--Brandon Burton two hits and drove in four runs, and Juan Sepulveda had three hits and drove in a run for the Golden Cougars (12-8) in the Bishop Gorman tournament.

Westlake 3, Notre Dame 0--Jesse Kozlowski and Tyler Carr combined on a two-hitter for the Warriors at Westlake.

Kozlowski (5-0) allowed a leadoff double by Alec Moss and a single by Brendan Ryan in the fourth inning, and struck out three while walking one. Carr struck out one and walked one for his first save.

Ryan McCarthy had two hits and two RBIs for the Warriors (17-1), ranked No. 1 in the region.

Notre Dame (11-6), which beat Westlake on Wednesday, is ranked No. 9.

Crespi 17, Harvard-Westlake 4--Dale Legaspi drove in three runs and recorded the final four outs to notch his third save for the Celts in a Mission League victory at Franklin Field.

Marshall Plouffe had two hits, including a three-run home run, for the Celts (14-3-1, 8-1-1).

Antelope Valley 8, Quartz Hill 0--Jorge Flores had two hits and three RBIs for the Antelopes (6-8, 3-6) in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill.

Calabasas 8, Santa Clara 2--Jesse Michel had two hits and three RBIs for the Coyotes (11-6-1, 5-2) in a Frontier League game.

Tony Sulser (4-2) pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts.

Village Christian 3, Kilpatrick 1--Warren Branum’s two-run double in the sixth inning gave the Crusaders an Alpha League victory at the Tujunga Senior Little League field.

Jeremy Gonzales (7-0) pitched a five-hitter and struck out eight for the Crusaders (10-4, 3-0).

Rio Mesa 13, Hueneme 12--John Mosqueda had three hits and two RBIs, including a two-run home run during a six-run fifth inning, and Poncho Tinoco hit a two-run double during a six-run sixth inning for the Spartans (11-12, 3-5) in a Pacific View League victory at Rio Mesa.
