The son of actor Pierce Brosnan was in serious condition Sunday after an accident the day before on a steep mountain road, authorities said.

Sean Brosnan, 13, who suffered a ruptured bladder and a fractured vertebrae and pelvis, had surgery after he was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center, said Officer Karen Faciane, a spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol.

Brosnan was a passenger in a car that plunged 150 to 200 feet over the embankment of Dume Mountain Way, a winding private road east of Kanan Dume Road in Malibu early Saturday, the CHP said.

Medical center officials said they could not confirm Brosnan’s condition because there was no patient named Sean Brosnan.

The driver, James P. Hall, 19, of Malibu, identified by authorities as Sean’s cousin, was booked on suspicion of felony drunk driving, the CHP said.

Sunday evening, Hall was still in custody at Lost Hills-Malibu Sheriff’s Station, in lieu of $50,000 bail, said Deputy Harry Drucker, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Hall and the other passengers--Robert Laird, 18, of England, and Malibu residents Cory Escobar, 19; Morgan Meyer, 20; and Anthony Hall, the 16-year-old brother of the driver--suffered minor injuries.
