Interviews for the Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball coaching job began Monday, athletic department spokesman Mel Franks said.

Tina Krah, an assistant last season for outgoing coach Denise Curry, was the first of three candidates to be interviewed. She was head coach at San Jose State from 1986 to 1992. She was out of coaching for four years before joining Curry’s staff.

Barbara Ehardt is scheduled to be interviewed today. She is a former assistant at Washington State, Brigham Young and UC Santa Barbara. Colorado State associate head coach Curt Miller is scheduled to visit Wednesday.

Curry announced last month that she would not seek renewal of her contract. This year’s team was 2-25 and won only one Big West Conference game.

* Michael Anderson, who coached the Bolsa Grande boys’ basketball team to 59 wins over the last three seasons, has resigned to seek a position as a community college assistant coach.

Anderson compiled a 69-42 record in his four years at the school, twice taking the Matadors to the quarterfinal round of the Southern Section playoffs. He set a school record for wins with 21 in 1999 and topped it this season with 23 as Bolsa Grande captured its first Garden Grove League title in 14 years.

Megan Gonsior, a senior at Fullerton High, has been awarded the National High School Athletic Institute’s Scholar-Athlete Award. The award is given for academic excellence, athletic performance and character.

Seven local high school riders, all seniors, have been awarded $1,500 scholarships from the Interscholastic Equestrian League.

They are English riders Natalie Best (Villa Park), Christyn Hendrick (Marina), Lindsay Patterson (Trabuco Hills), Elizabeth Waffarn (Foothill), Katherine Wagner (Troy) and Tiffany Washington (Newport Harbor) and Western rider James Hallisey (Santa Margarita).

Koral King, a sophomore shortstop at Cypress College, has signed with Baylor, Cypress announced Monday. King, from Esperanza High, is batting .401 with 30 RBIs and 29 runs in 42 games. She was a second-team Louisville JC All-American last year, when she batted .400 and helped Cypress to the state title.
