Hariot Is Proving Better Than Average at El Camino Real

Most people are usually skeptical when they see a batting average above .500 by a small schools baseball player.

For example, Christian Hariot batted .608 and had 48 hits last season as a freshman at Faith Baptist.

“Big deal,” was a typical reaction from people who attributed it to inferior competition.

Now that Hariot is batting .777 (seven for nine) at El Camino Real, he’s having the last laugh.

The shortstop started the season on El Camino Real’s junior varsity, where he was batting .698 (32 for 47) with 24 runs batted in before being promoted to the varsity last week. He has gone four for five and three for four in two starts.

“He’s one of the better hitters I’ve seen in a long time--at least at the JV level,” junior varsity Coach Dave Siedelman said.

Varsity Coach Bob Ganssle is starting to become a believer, too.

“I think Christian Hariot is going to be a very good ballplayer and his future is very bright,” Ganssle said.
