* Albert Miller, a 6-foot-3 guard at Los Angeles City College, has signed at UC Irvine, LACC Coach Mike Miller said.

Albert Miller averaged 15 points, five rebounds and two assists and was the Cubs’ top defensive player. “He is very solid,” Mike Miller said.

Albert Miller was on the 1998 Westchester High team that won City Section and state titles. He committed to play at Washington State, but wound up at College of Southern Idaho, a community college, before transferring to LACC last fall. The Cubs were 34-3 last season.

Previously, Irvine signed 6-3 guard Mike Wood from Southern Idaho, 7-1 center Dave Korfman of MiraCosta College and 6-9 forward Stanislav Zuzak of the Czech Republic.

* Shemmar Frazier, a 6-7 center from Saddleback College, has signed with Missouri Western State, a Saddleback spokesman said.

Frazier, a 1997 graduate of Mission Viejo High, averaged 5.5 points and 5.5 rebounds last season in helping the Gauchos to a share of the Orange Empire Conference title. Missouri Western competes in the NCAA Division II Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Assn.

SOFTBALL

Erin Kelly, freshman pitcher from Fullerton College, has signed with Cal State Bakersfield, Fullerton Coach Lisa Bassi said.

Kelly was voted Orange Empire Conference pitcher of the year this year after compiling a 0.72 ERA and 27-4 record.

Fullerton first baseman Angela Veronesi has signed with Oklahoma State, Bassi said. Veronesi hit .325 with 30 RBIs this year.

BASEBALL

Concordia’s postseason hopes are on the line Saturday when it hosts Westmont in a Golden State Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader beginning at noon.

With four regular-season games remaining, the Eagles (25-20, 13-13) trail Westmont (25-16, 14-12) by one game for the fourth and final GSAC postseason tournament berth.

The playoffs begin May 8-9.

Concordia, which has been streaky all season, has been cold lately, losing four in a row, including Tuesday’s 6-5 loss to The Master’s. Concordia, which has a seven-game winning streak this season, has a team batting average of .337, but has committed 89 errors.
