Capps Resigns as Football Coach at Orange

Kevin Capps resigned Friday as football coach at Orange High School, Athletic Director Ed Howard said.

Capps had a three-year record of 1-29 at Orange, winning only the final game of the 1999 season, a 14-7 decision over Canyon.

* The Orange County Junior All-American football Super Bowl games are scheduled for today beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Mission Viejo High.

Junior Clinic division--Huntington Beach Dolphins vs. Compton Titans, 8:30 a.m.; Clinic division--Mission Viejo Cowboys vs. Carson Colts, 10:30 a.m.; Junior Pee Wee--South Orange County Patriots vs. Baldwin Hills Titans, 12:45 p.m.; Pee Wee--La Mirada Matadors vs. Carson Colts, 3 p.m.; Junior Midget--Orange Chiefs vs. Carson Colts, 5:15 p.m.; Midget--Garden Grove Panthers vs. Irwindale Sentinels, 7:30 p.m.

WATER POLO

Peter Belden of Newport Harbor, the Southern Section Division I champions, will lead the field at the North-South senior all-star water polo game Sunday at Villa Park High.

Others joining Belden on the South squad will be teammate Ryan Cook, University’s Ted Peck, Corona del Mar’s Garrett Bowlus, El Toro’s Brett McCleave and San Clemente’s Josh Hewko.

The North squad will include Foothill’s Brian Alexander and Wes Fox, Villa Park’s Jared Jones and Charlie Fisher, Los Alamitos’ Erik Geoffroy and La Habra’s Josh Jewett.

The game begins at 11 a.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for students.

TENNIS

Jim Moore has been named men’s tennis coach at Orange Coast College, replacing the retiring Tandy Gillis, Athletic Director Jane Hilgendorf announced.

Moore, a former student at Orange Coast, began coaching 15 years ago at Connelly High in Anaheim and has worked at several clubs and academies since then.
