McNicol Makes Three-Point History for Master’s

Senior guard Melynda McNicol scored 24 points on a school-record eight three-point baskets as The Master’s College routed Trinity International, 94-44, in a nonconference women’s basketball game Saturday night at Master’s.

McNicol made eight of nine three-point shots, including all six in the second half.

Kelly Cornell scored 16 points for the Mustangs (11-2), who registered their ninth consecutive victory. The Master’s defeated Trinity International, 78-48, on Friday night.

Erin Buescher had 12 points and five assists for Master’s.

Antelope Valley 69, Monterey Peninsula 68--Ebony Sullivan’s four-foot jump shot with 55 seconds left in overtime lifted the Marauders (8-5) to a second-round victory in the Monterey Peninsula tournament.

Tammy Thompson of Monterey Peninsula (2-12), who scored 23 points, sent the game into overtime with two free throws to make the score, 64-64.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale 81, Trade Tech 66--Sophomore Michael Schnyder scored 21 points and the Vaqueros (9-5) won the Glendale tournament.

Tim Taylor, the tournament’s most valuable player, had 16 points and eight rebounds for Glendale (9-5).

Cal Lutheran 64, Chapman 51--Victor Esquer had 18 points and Pat Holmberg had 17 for the Kingsmen, who made 66.7% of their shots in the second half to win at Cal Lutheran.

The Kingsmen (4-2) made 12 of 18 shots in the second half, breaking a 27-27 halftime tie.

Ryan Hodges had 12 points for Cal Lutheran.

Valley 81, Victor Valley 55--Mike Crawford had 21 points and the Monarchs (9-7) won the third place game in the Cuyamaca tournament.

BOYS’ SOCCER

St. Francis 3, Bishop Montgomery 1--Daniel Paladini scored on a free kick and a penalty kick for the Golden Knights (6-1) at Bishop Montgomery.

Buena 1, Notre Dame 0--David Fuentes’ scored in the final seconds on an assist from Tim Goodwin for the Bulldogs (3-3) in a consolation game of the Royal tournament.

Grant 1, L.A. University 0--Gabriel Gutierrez scored for the Lancers (5-1) on an assist from Johnny Amaya in the 69th minute to win the Grant tournament.
