Fullerton Beats Santa Ana to Win Tournament

Fullerton’s Jon Timmon scored 24 points Saturday as the Hornets defeated Santa Ana, 87-84, in the championship game of the Pasadena Crown City tournament in Pasadena.

Timmon, the tournament MVP, made 12 of 15 field-goal attempts and had a game-high 13 rebounds for the Hornets, who led, 54-40, at halftime. J.J. Sola had 17 points and seven rebounds, and Romel Beck scored 16 points for Fullerton (11-4). Sola made seven of nine from the field, as Fullerton shot 59.7% for the game.

Joe Nichols led Santa Ana (7-5) with 21 points, Harvey Watson and Zac Fray added 17 and Herbert Gracia had eight assists and five steals.

Sola and Fray were named to the all-tournament team.

In the third-place game:

Cypress 71, Pasadena 67--The Chargers rallied from a 32-27 halftime deficit, led by Brandon Erquhart, who scored 19 points. Abe Lorenzana and Adam Rachlin added 15 each for Cypress (6-7).

In the Orange Coast Christmas women’s basketball tournament:

Cerritos 78, Fullerton 62--Tammy Yonamine had 17 points and Kristin Hayman had 12 for Fullerton (5-6) in the semifinal.

Orange Coast 57, San Diego Mesa 52--Kristen Urban scored 15 points, Kyra Melville had 12 and Jennifer Nakano added 11 for the Pirates in the semifinal. Orange Coast (8-5) plays Cerritos in today’s championship game at 4 p.m.

Victor Valley 70, Golden West 35--Christine Arganoa and Randi Perry finished with nine points each for Golden West.

Victor Valley closed the first half with a 28-6 run.

In nonconference games:

Cypress 74, Grossmont 49--Angela Garrett scored 18 points for the visiting Chargers (5-8). Randie Washington added 12 points and Randi Pomeroy scored 11.

Saddleback 71, Cerro Coso 39--Kalena Jackson finished with 18 points, making nine of 15 field-goal attempts for Saddleback. Hayley Hall had 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Colleen O’Leary had 13 points and 10 rebounds for host Saddleback (4-7).
