Reis, Keller, Tinsley in Alumni Event
Matt Reis of the Galaxy, Josh Keller of Tampa Bay and Ryan Tinsley of San Jose will be among the Major League Soccer and college players competing in the Mission Viejo Pateadores alumni tournament at 9 a.m. today at Gilleran Park. Byron Foss and Wade Fraser of Southern Methodist University, which reached the Final Four this season, will also play in the round-round robin tournament.
TRACK AND FIELD
Cross-country standout Julie Allen is among the Orange County high school athletes who will be competing in the 41st L.A. Invitational indoor track meet on Jan. 20 at the Sports Arena. She will compete in the two-mile race.
Allen, a junior at Fountain Valley High and The Times’ Orange County girls’ cross-country runner of the year in 1999, is expected to move with her family into the Corona del Mar attendance area in January.
Other top county participants include Mater Dei’s Jenny Sears in the girls’ mile, Mission Viejo’s Dana Bethel in the girls’ 50-meter hurdles and long jump, Katella’s Cortney Stafford in the girls’ triple jump, Irvine’s Mario Bassani in the boys’ 500-yard race, Tustin’s Alonzo Smith in the boys’ mile, Tustin’s Alex Marbley in the boys’ high jump and Esperanza’s Travis Jones in the boys’ shotput.
The high school events begin at 11 a.m. and the college and invitational events at 6 p.m. Shotput and discus competition will be held at USC.
