Capistrano Valley Advances to Final

Capistrano Valley’s Lindsay Peloza and Staci Sinkway made three late free throws to help the Cougars beat Reno (Nev.), 42-36, Thursday in the semifinals of the Marina Tournament at Marina.

Peloza, who scored seven of her 11 points in the fourth quarter, made one of two free throws with 18 seconds left to put Capistrano Valley up, 38-35. Sinkway, who also had 11 points, made two free throws with 10 seconds left to secure the victory for the Cougars (7-4).

The Cougars play Kent (Wash.) Meridian for the championship at 7:30 tonight.

Jennifer Koch led Reno (9-3) with 11 points.

In other tournament games:

Meridian 49, El Dorado 41-- Melissa Jacob had 22 points, including four three-pointers, for El Dorado in a semifinal loss. El Dorado plays in the third-place game today.

Pacifica 58, Santa Ana Valley 55--Crystal Davis had 23 points and 21 rebounds in a losing effort for Santa Ana Valley (9-5). Pacifica plays today at 6 p.m. in the consolation championship.

In Antioch Deer Valley tournament:

Brea Olinda 59, Fresno Clovis West 38--Brea Olinda, ranked third in Orange County, led by as many as 23 points and caused 23 Clovis West turnovers in the second-round game.

Jackie Lord scored 15 points and Jennifer Katsuyama added nine for the Ladycats (8-2), who play Berkeley in the semifinals at 8:30 tonight.

In the Costa Mesa tournament:

No. 7 Woodbridge 66, Villa Park 33--Woodbridge extended its record to 12-0 with a tight defense that held Lauren Yadon, Villa Park’s center and leading scorer, to one field goal and nine points. Senior guard Kelsi Sousa was the high scorer with 18 points, including three three-pointers, for Woodbridge.

In the Santa Maria Valley Christian tournament:

Brethren Christian 48, Santa Maria Valley Academy 38--Jesiree Dizon had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Sarah Amberry had 15 rebounds to help Brethren Christian (11-2) to the semifinal win.
