Fire Forces Woman From Home

A 78-year-old woman was forced out of her El Rio home early Friday when a fire raced through the living room and kitchen.

The blaze began just before 4 a.m. in the single-story house on Minna Street, officials said.

Engines and firefighters from the Ventura County Fire Department joined the Oxnard Fire Department in fighting the blaze, authorities said. Five engines and about 25 firefighters put out the flames in 26 minutes.

The woman, who had lived in the house for 27 years, was treated for smoke inhalation.

The blaze caused $135,000 in damage to the rented home--$90,000 to the structure and $45,000 in contents, authorities said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
