Poggio Strikes Fast in Mater Dei Victory

Randy Poggio scored two first-half goals, the first one a minute into the game, to lead Mater Dei to a 4-1 victory over Simi Valley Royal in a Southern Section Division II boys’ soccer quarterfinal Saturday at Mater Dei.

Poggio, who has six goals in the last four games, also scored in the 30th minute to stake Mater Dei (26-5-1) to a 2-0 lead at the half.

The Monarchs then got goals in the 61st and 62nd minutes by Eric Rolwing and Ruben Rosales, before Royal (20-8-2) scored its only goal.

Mater Dei will play Riverside Poly at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mater Dei.
