Batch Won’t Play Against Washington
Detroit Lion quarterback Charlie Batch is sidelined because of a bad thumb again, and this time it might require surgery.
Batch will miss the Lions’ playoff game against the Washington Redskins on Saturday. He re-injured his broken right thumb in a 24-17 loss at Minnesota on Sunday.
That means Gus Frerotte--a former Redskin quarterback--will start for Detroit in Washington--where the Lions never have won. Detroit (8-8) went 2-4 with Frerotte as a starter this season.

Middle linebacker Ed McDaniel, the Minnesota Vikings’ leading tackler, is optimistic about facing the Dallas Cowboys Sunday despite a sprained right knee.
McDaniel sat out the second half of the Vikings’ game Sunday.
“I didn’t want to go out there and really mess it up more than it is,” he said.
