Glendale Needs Overtime to Edge Hancock

Glendale College survived an upset bid and claimed an 89-87 overtime victory over Hancock on Tuesday night in a nonconference men’s basketball game at Glendale.

The Vaqueros (14-4), ranked No. 19 in the state, led, 78-75, before Mark Copeland of Hancock (4-14) hit a three-pointer with three seconds left.

Ryan Abrahams scored 15 of his 19 points after intermission to help Glendale win its fifth consecutive game.

Mike Schnyder scored 15 points and Sean Stroud added 11 for the Vaqueros.

Hancock led at halftime, 41-39, before Glendale rallied.

Cal Lutheran 79, Wisconsin Lutheran 78--Justin Muth’s layup with 0.4 seconds remaining gave host Cal Lutheran (6-3) a nonconference victory.

Muth had 30 points and 11 rebounds. The lead changed hands four times in the final 38 seconds.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Hart 1, Saugus 0--Oscar Mendez scored his sixth goal of the season to lift the Indians in a Foothill League opener at Saugus (5-6-4). Goalkeeper Kyle Reynish recorded his eighth shutout for Hart (12-2-1).

St. Francis 2, Loyola 1--Ryan Shaw had a goal and an assist and the Golden Knights (11-2-3) held the Cubs (8-5-4) scoreless for the first 74 minutes of a Mission League opener at St. Francis.

Paraclete 2, Palmdale 1--Paul Watts had a goal and an assist for the Spirits (5-1-1) in a nonleague victory at Lancaster Soccer Complex. Mike Piolatto scored late in the game for Palmdale.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Nordhoff 4, Santa Ynez 2--Jenna Hunter had two goals and an assist, and Lacy Albrent added a goal and an assist for the Rangers (7-2-2) in a nonleague game at Nordhoff.

Camarillo 4, Hueneme 2--Sabrina Stracke scored two goals for the Scorpions (6-3, 3-0) in a Pacific View League victory at Hueneme.

Burroughs 3, Burbank 0--Deborah Mosombite and Kacey Sayers each had one goal and one assist for the Indians (8-6) in a Foothill League opener at Burroughs.

Monroe 5, Taft 0--Anabelen Leboreiro and Lourdes Alaniz each scored twice for the Vikings (4-1-2) in the first round of pool play at the Monroe tournament.

In other pool-play games, Narbonne defeated North Hollywood, 7-0, Kennedy beat Poly, 6-0, and Cleveland beat Canoga Park, 5-0.
