Senior center Nick Sheppard of Pepperdine has not started the last three games, but Coach Jan van Breda Kolff downplayed the significance.
“He will be back in the lineup when we begin [West Coast] Conference play next week,” van Breda Kolff said. “Nick hasn’t played with the intensity I’d like and he knows it. But he is a good player and his game off the bench has been solid.”
Sheppard, a 6-11 senior, is in his second season after transferring from Louisiana State. He is averaging 8.6 points and 6.3 rebounds, including a nine-point, 10-rebound effort in the Waves’ 83-38 victory over Lehigh on Monday.
Freshman Boomer Brazzle started in Sheppard’s place against Lehigh and had five points and seven rebounds.
