Matt Blanchard

La Quinta, Basketball

This senior sharpshooter started the Aztecs’ Garden Grove League season with a hot

streak last week.

Blanchard, a 5-foot-11 guard, led La Quinta to two victories by averaging 31 points and making 11 three-point baskets. Blanchard scored 36 points and made eight three-pointers in an 86-72 victory over Santiago, and followed with another sterling performance, 26 points in a 57-43 victory over Garden Grove.

Scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over previously undefeated and third-ranked Huntington Beach.

Villa Park, Water Polo

The UCLA-bound senior, a two-time Century League player of the year, helped the Spartans climb to the top of the

county

rankings this week after leading Villa Park to the Newport Harbor tourna-

ment

championship. She scored 12 goals in four tournament games, including the game-winning goal in an 8-7 victory in the title game against Newport Harbor, at the time ranked No. 1 in the county.

Averaged 20 points in three victories and scored 12 fourth-quarter points in 54-50 victory over No. 9 Irvine.

Los Alamitos, Soccer

Scored the only goal in the Griffins’ 1-0 Sunset League victory over eighth-ranked Esperanza.

* Kimberly Noble

San Clemente, Basketball

Had 15 points and 10 rebounds in No. 4 San Clemente’s 55-45 victory over top-ranked Brea Olinda.
