Valley Christian Tops Orange Lutheran
Orange Lutheran led by two points after one quarter, but Susie Boogaard scored 23 points to help host Cerritos Valley Christian win, 42-37, in an Olympic League girls’ basketball game Tuesday.
Nicole Grady had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Orange Lutheran (8-6, 1-1 in league). Valley Christian (12-3, 2-0) outscored Orange Lutheran, 14-4, in the second quarter to take control.
In the Academy League:
Connelly 50, St. Margaret’s 38--Guard Kim Ozawa scored 28 points, including five three-pointers, for host Connelly (5-6, 2-1). Monique Kettler led St. Margaret’s (2-8, 0-3) with 22 points and 19 rebounds.
In the Century League:
No. 7 Foothill 82, Canyon 20--Visiting Foothill scored the first 22 points. Kelsi Sousa had 29 points for the Knights (10-6, 2-0). Canyon is 7-10, 0-2.
Santa Ana Valley 64, Orange 31--Crystal Davis scored 18 points for host Santa Ana Valley (13-3, 2-0).
In the Orange League:
No. 4 Brea Olinda 90, Savanna 12--Jackie Lord had 23 points, including six three-pointers, and Chelsea Trotter had 17 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists for host Brea Olinda (9-5, 1-0).
Valencia 50, Anaheim 41--Monika Jackley scored 23 points for visiting Valencia (15-1, 1-0).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Costa Mesa 43, University 31--Costa Mesa’s Nancy Hatsushi, who leads the county in assists, sprained her ankle four minutes into the game but the Mustangs (12-5, 2-0) held on. Autumn Smith had 11 blocked shots and 10 rebounds for Costa Mesa.
In the Sunset League:
No. 5 Esperanza 66, Huntington Beach 32--Kristin Peters scored 18 points for Esperanza (12-4, 2-0).
Edison 64, Los Alamitos 38--Bianca Ziemann scored 20 points to lead the Chargers (11-7, 2-0).
Marina 52, Fountain Valley 47--
Marina’s Miranda Emde made two three-pointers in the fourth quarter to help break a 42-42 tie. Emde finished with 19 points for the Vikings (13-5, 1-1). Lauren Uchizono scored 18 for Fountain Valley.
