Tarbut V’Torah Wins Its Own Tournament

Noam Dashti had 17 points and 12 rebounds to help Tarbut V’Torah defeat Fairmont, 62-38, Thursday in the final of the first Tarbut V’Torah boys’ basketball tournament.

Able Matan had 14 points and 18 rebounds for the Lions (13-1).

In the Academy League:

St. Michael’s 56, Southern California Christian 44--Victor Alcantara scored 19 points to lead visiting St. Michael’s (6-4, 2-2).

In Freeway League girls’ water polo:

Fullerton 9, La Habra 5--Ashley Blockburger scored five goals for host Fullerton, which trailed by two at halftime but scored eight second-half goals for the comeback victory.

Wendy Kleinhampl scored three goals for La Habra (3-7, 0-3).

Buena Park 6, Sunny Hills 3--Amanda Tallian, Kelli Britton and Alissa Walker each scored two goals to lead Buena Park (7-8, 2-1).

In the Orange League:

Savanna 8, Magnolia 7--Sarah Anderson scored her only goal, the game-winner, with 1 minute 3 seconds remaining for Savanna (9-6, 1-1). Heather Bullard scored the tying goal for Savanna 39 seconds earlier.

Andrea Barraza, Amber Schaefer and Monica Lorey each scored two goals for the visiting Rebels.

Carie Anderson scored three goals for Magnolia (1-1 in league).

In the South Coast League:

No. 7 Capistrano Valley 8, San Clemente 3--Lesley Merlo scored three goals and Amber Stachowski added two for Capistrano Valley (6-3, 1-0).

In nonleague water polo:

Canyon 7, Cypress 5--Christine McDonald and Lauren Volcan each scored three goals for visiting Canyon (10-2).

Lindsay Sampson and Neisha Hoagland scored two goals each for Cypress (10-7).

Santa Ana Valley 6, Westminster 2--Elizabeth Orozco scored three goals for host Santa Ana Valley (7-6).
