Rockies Get Yoshii From Mets

From Staff and Wire Reports

Right-hander Masato Yoshii was traded by the New York Mets to the Colorado Rockies on Friday for left-hander Bobby Jones and right-handed reliever Lariel Gonzalez.

“He fits into the plan of what we want to do,” Colorado General Manager Dan O’Dowd said of Yoshii. “Twenty of his 29 starts [last season] were what we call quality starts. He finished the season 5-1 with a 1.74 ERA in his last 10 starts.”

The deal gives the Mets two Bobby Joneses: They already have Robert J. Jones, a 29-year-old right-hander. Robert M. Jones, 27, was 6-10 with a 6.33 ERA in 30 appearances. Yoshii was 12-8 with a 4.40 ERA in 29 starts and two relief appearances.
