Chaminade Jumps Out Early, Breezes Past Alemany

Scott Borchart had 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots to lead Chaminade High to a 62-53 victory over Alemany in a Mission League boys’ basketball game at Chaminade.

Ryan Arceo added 16 points for the Eagles (13-5 overall, 4-2 in league play), ranked No. 6 in the region by The Times.

Chaminade built a 31-17 halftime lead, outscoring the Indians, 18-7, in the second quarter when Tito Hill scored seven points.

Byron Joseph had 15 points and six assists, and Evan Cline scored 13 points for Alemany (6-13, 1-5).

Harvard-Westlake 83, Loyola 74--Russell Lakey made seven of eight free throws and scored 12 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter for Harvard-Westlake in a Mission League game at Loyola.

Eric Geffner added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the No. 3-ranked Wolverines (15-4, 6-0).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Buckley 51, Viewpoint 31--Baja Maleki had 26 points for Buckley in a Liberty League game at Viewpoint. Krystal Dry scored 15 for Viewpoint (3-1, 1-7).

Ventura 85, Littlerock 50--Alex Gientke had 24 points and Kristine Gleisberg had 15 points and 12 rebounds for host Ventura (18-1).

BOYS’ SOCCER

Chaminade 3, Alemany 0--Goalie Matthew Witcher recorded his ninth shutout of the season, including his fifth in league play, to lead host Chaminade (12-4, 5-1), ranked No. 5 in the region by The Times.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Chaminade 4, Alemany 0--Kim Taylor had two goals and two assists to spark No. 5-ranked Chaminade (14-4-3, 3-0-2) in a Mission League game at Alemany.

Flintridge Sacred Heart 2, Louisville 0--Lauren Johnson and Jessica Reyes each scored for Flintridge Sacred Heart (11-3-2, 2-1-1).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Canyons 99, Bakersfield 84--Tasha Allen had 40 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for host Canyons (17-6, 5-0) in a Western State Conference Southern Division game.

Antelope Valley 61, Chaffey 59--Alisha Sanders made a three-point shot with 9.2 seconds remaining to give the Marauders a Foothill Conference victory at Chaffey.

Talaya McDaniel had 14 points, 10 rebounds and five steals, Ebony Sullivan scored 14 points and Brandy Smith had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Antelope Valley (10-11, 4-2).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Cal Lutheran 76, Caltech 38--Justin Muth scored 20 points on nine-of-14 shooting and the host Kingsmen (8-6, 1-3) held the Beavers (1-14, 0-4) to 32% field-goal shooting to post their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory.

David Seals scored 12 points off the bench for the Kingsmen.
