Nieman Scores 21 Points to Lead Idaho Past Titans

Alli Nieman, the conference’s leading scorer, had 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to help Idaho hold off Cal State Fullerton, 72-69, in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game Sunday in Moscow, Idaho.

Fullerton scored 14 consecutive points to take a six-point lead midway through the second half, but Idaho (10-7, 3-1 in conference) rallied.

Kristina Naumovic, who had 15 points, made a three-pointer to pull Fullerton to within three, but Idaho’s Darci Pemberton blocked a potential tying shot at the buzzer.

Erin Whiteside had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Fullerton (2-14, 1-3).

In another Big West Conference game:

Boise State 83, UC Irvine 72--Stephanie Block scored 25 points, making 11 of 14 shots from the field, and Yvette Barrios had 11 points and seven assists for host Boise State (9-7, 2-1).

Reserve Kirsten Cappel scored 16 points for Irvine (9-6, 2-1), which shot 32% from the field in the first half and never drew closer than 10 points in the second half.

In Big West Conference women’s gymnastics:

Cal State Fullerton 193.950, Boise State 192.400--Joanna Hughes won the all-around and tied with teammate Kelly Mathiasen to win the vault (9.825) for host Fullerton (2-2, 2-0), which set a school scoring record for the second consecutive week.
