It was a win-win situation Thursday night at Buckley.
First, the Griffins defeated Providence, 55-47, by closing the game with a 10-2 run and opened a 1 1/2-game lead in the Liberty League boys’ basketball race.
Then, after the money from admissions and concessions was totaled, Buckley announced it had raised $1,400 for the children of Paul Sutton, the longtime Providence coach and athletic director who died last August of colon cancer.
The Buckley administration said it will match the proceeds raised for the Sutton children, bringing the total to $2,800.
