Officials Announce Fire Restrictions
Visitors to Los Padres National Forest will face additional fire restrictions starting Saturday, the U.S. Forest Service announced Wednesday.
No open fires, campfires or charcoal fires will be allowed outside of developed recreation sites or designated areas, even with a California campfire permit. Lanterns and portable stoves that use gas, jellied petroleum or pressurized liquid fuel are permitted with a valid permit.
Smoking is also prohibited, except within an enclosed vehicle, building, developed recreation site, or in designated areas indicated by a sign or marker as a smoking area, or while stopped in an area barren of flammable materials for three feet in all directions.
Before leaving the forest, all visitors must also clear all flammable material within five feet of their camp stoves, have a shovel available, and make sure someone tends to the stove when in use.
A total of 27 fires have burned about 350 acres this fire season in the park, all of which were caused by visitors, the Forest Service said.
