Corea Will Defend Title in Valencia

Israel Corea of Oxnard will defend his WBC Fecar Latin American junior-lightweight title against Rodger Medal of Pasadena on June 24 at the Valencia Hyatt.

The matchup is the main bout of “Fight Night Under the Stars,” an RW Promotions event that will be held in the hotel’s parking lot. Doors open at 6 p.m., first bell is at 7:30.

Corea (10-2, two knockouts) was scheduled to fight Medal (12-2, four knockouts) for the California junior-lightweight title in February, but he became ill two weeks before the bout. Medal defeated Felipe Compa of Oxnard by split decision.

The Corea-Medal fight is scheduled for 12 rounds.

Featherweights Juan Ruiz of Newhall and Arturo Flores of Pacoima will fight on the undercard. Ruiz won his pro debut in February on the same card that Flores won his second consecutive fight.

Kim Baines of Santa Clarita will make his pro debut against Juan Rodriguez (0-1) of Thermal in a junior-welterweight fight.

Also scheduled to fight is Artyon Galstyan (0-1), a lightweight whose opponent is to be announced.

The other bout will match Paula Fey (1-2) of East Los Angeles against Bertha Gonzales (0-1) of North Hills.
