Lancaster’s Fortunes Are Falling

Lancaster was off Wednesday, its second break in three days. The JetHawks (30-22) have lost three in a row and six of 10 to fall into a tie with San Bernardino for the lead in the California League’s South Division.
The Stampede, with Orel Hershiser pitching six innings of four-hit ball and giving up one unearned run, defeated Lancaster, 2-1, on Tuesday to win its fourth consecutive game and ninth in 10.
North Division leader Modesto (31-21) claimed the best record in the league with a 3-2 victory over Bakersfield on Tuesday.

The JetHawks are the top hitting team in the league with a .291 average, led by outfielders Juan Silvestre and Terrmel Sledge, and second baseman Willie Bloomquist. High Desert is second at .282.
Silvestre leads the league with a .365 average and 49 runs batted in. Sledge is tied for second with a .364 average and Bloomquist is fourth at .361.
Right-hander Brandon Parker leads the league with 13 saves. Lancaster has the second-best earned-run average at 4.12, led by Josue Matos, who is 2-2 with a 3.13 ERA. San Bernardino leads the league with a 4.01 ERA.
