2nd Team Honors for Scott

Junior Bill Scott of UCLA, from Alemany High, has been selected second-team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assn.

Scott, a left fielder, had a school-record 112 hits this season and a .421 batting average.

He was selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the eighth round of the amateur draft Monday.

* The City Section rules committee has granted Birmingham High a waiver, making the Patriots eligible for the playoffs next year.

Birmingham was ousted from the City Invitational this season because three players broke a City rule by playing in an adult league game during the season.

* Jesse Michel, a sophomore catcher at Calabasas, is transferring to El Camino Real.

* All-Mission League catcher Matt Wilson of Crespi has signed with Cal State Sacramento.

SOFTBALL

Megan Peterson of Cedarville College in Ohio, a graduate of L.A. Baptist High, received honorable mention on the NAIA All-American team and was a National Christian College Athletic Assn. All-American.

Peterson, a 5-9 junior right-hander, set a school record for victories. She was 20-7 with a 0.77 earned-run average. She struck out 181 and walked 17 in 180 2/3 innings, and had a .421 batting average.

FOOTBALL

* Nick Ciufo, a linebacker from Thousand Oaks High, has committed to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

TRACK AND FIELD

* Laura Sauao of San Jose Ovefelt High, who finished sixth in the shotput and eighth in the discus in the state championships, has signed with Cal State Northridge.

Sauao has career bests of 45-9 in the shotput and 142-8 in the discus.

* Curtis Goss, sprints and relays coach at Mt. San Antonio College for the last 12 years, has been hired at Moorpark College.

Goss replaces Art Green, who left his assistant’s position.

BASKETBALL

Todd Tomlinson, career and single-season scoring leader at Moorpark High, will attend the U.S. Naval Academy prep school in Newport. R.I., starting next month.

Tomlinson averaged 24.1 points and 5.1 assists last season.

* Eurskine Robinson, a guard from Canyons, signed with Loyola Marymount.

Robinson had a school-record 421 assists in two years for the Cougars and averaged 10 points.

SOCCER

* Cal State Los Angeles promoted Santo Rivas, former girls’ coach at La Canada High, from interim to head men’s and women’s coach.
