Silvestre Wins Cal League Award

Outfielder Juan Silvestre of the Lancaster JetHawks was selected player of the month in the California League for April and May. He hit .365 with 10 home runs and 49 runs batted in through May.

Silvestre, who missed two weeks in May because of a pulled hamstring, is leading the league with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs.

Lancaster and Rancho Cucamonga were tied, 1-1, after 11 innings Thursday in front of 2,037 at the Hangar.

Antonio Perez hit a first-inning home run for the JetHawks, and Graham Koonce doubled in Clay Snellgrove in the first inning for Rancho Cucamonga.

Josue Matos struck out 10 and walked two in seven innings for Lancaster.
