If Hart High football coaches are involved, bet the farm an air show will ensue.

Especially when the Herrington brothers have outstanding talent at their disposal.

East quarterbacks Scott Vossmeyer of Crescenta Valley and David Parker of Saugus each passed for two touchdowns in the first half to ignite a 34-0 victory Saturday night in the Valley Youth Conference East-West All-Star game at Cal State Northridge.

The East, guided by Hart Coach Mike Herrington and brothers Dean and Rick, scored on its first four possessions. With Vossmeyer playing the first quarter and Parker the second, they combined to complete 14 of 16 for 217 yards in the first half. Both incompletions were drops.

Vossmeyer, who is headed to Oregon, threw back-to-back touchdown passes in the first quarter.

Vossmeyer hooked up with former Crescenta Valley teammate Steve Carballo for an 18-yard strike midway through the quarter to cap an 80-yard drive.

Carballo, who caught three passes for 66 yards, split defenders David Harvey of Granada Hills and Nick Nordgreen of Malibu in the left flat for the score.

On the the East’s next play from scrimmage, Vossmeyer hit Derek Goodman of Alemany on a play-action pass for a 64-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

Vossmeyer, selected the East’s most valuable player after completing 11 of 13 passes for 175 yards, thoroughly enjoyed himself.

“[The coaches] really let me open it up and have some fun,” Vossmeyer said. “They’re great coaches. Now I know why Hart does so well.”

Parker didn’t miss a beat when he relieved Vossmeyer.

The All-Foothill League quarterback rolled left and connected on an 11-yard touchdown with former Saugus teammate Nathan Steele.

The East threatened to score on its fifth possession after driving to the West 10-yard line, but was undone by trickery.

Tailback Manuel White of Valencia attempted an option pass in the end zone for Goodman, but Ronald Adams of Montclair Prep intercepted the ball.

UCLA-bound White, who had 42 yards in eight carries, scored on a two-yard run in the third quarter.

West quarterbacks Jason Winn of Granada Hills and Ruben Zaragoza of Kennedy, under constant pressure, and combined to complete 19 of 36 passes for 159 yards. Winn, headed to Texas Tech, was the West’s most valuable player, completing 13 of 25 for 129 yards.
