Webb Gets Hot After Slow Start
Karrie Webb rallied after three bogeys in the first six holes and extended her lead to two shots in Thursday’s second round of the $1.8-million Evian Masters.
Webb shot a three-under-par 69 over the 6,091-yard Royal Evian Club course for a 36-hole total of nine-under 135.
Sophie Gustafson of Sweden had a 68 and was second at 137, one stroke ahead of Annika Sorenstam, who also shot a 68.
“I had a bad start,” Webb said. “I was getting agitated, but I managed to get it back and grind it out.
“There were a few concentration errors.”
She reeled off birdies from seven through nine, bogeyed the 10th, then covered the final six holes in four under.
At the par-four, 13th, she hit a nine-iron 127 yards and the ball ran into the hole for an eagle. At the 14th, she drained a 22-foot birdie putt, and at the par-five 18th she wedged to 15 feet and sank her fifth birdie putt of the day.
