County Teams to Play for 16 Section Titles

Basketball teams from Brea Olinda, Calvary Chapel and Heritage Christian open a busy weekend for county school pursuing Southern Section championships--18 teams playing for 16 section titles--when they play in division finals Friday.

The Heritage Christian boys’ basketball team, seeded No. 2, plays top-seeded Los Angeles Price in Division V-A at 4:45 p.m. Friday at Loyola Marymount.

Tickets for the game are $8 for general admission and $4 for children 12 and under.

Calvary Chapel opens play for county girls’ teams when the Eagles meet Playa del Rey St. Bernard in Division IV-A at 4:45 p.m. Friday at the Pyramid at Long Beach State.

Brea Olinda’s girls also play Friday, against Redondo Beach Redondo Union in Division II-AA, at 8:15 p.m. at the Pyramid.

Orange Lutheran is one of four boys’ basketball teams competing for titles Saturday at the Pond. The top-seeded Lancers open the morning session when they play second-seeded Santa Monica Crossroads at 9 a.m. in Division IV-A.

Second-seeded Ocean View plays top-seeded Lakewood Artesia at 12:30 p.m. in Division II-A. At 2:15 p.m., Brea Olinda takes on Compton Dominguez in Division II-AA.

Tickets for the morning session are $8 for general admission and $4.50 for children.

In the evening session, top-seeded Mater Dei plays third-seeded Simi Valley at 8:45 p.m. in Division I-A.

Four county girls’ teams play for section titles Saturday at the Pyramid. In the morning session, Pacifica plays Laguna Hills in Division II-A at 1 p.m.

In the evening session, Rosary meets Torrance Bishop Montgomery in Division III-A at 6:30 p.m., followed by Troy against Riverside North in Division I-A at 8:15 p.m.

Tickets for games at the Pyramid on Friday and Saturday are $8 for general admission and $4 for children 12 and under.

Soccer championships will be Saturday at La Mirada High and Cal State Fullerton.

Estancia’s boys’ team plays Torrance Bishop Montgomery in Division IV at 10 a.m. at La Mirada. The St. Margaret’s boys’ team takes on Pasadena Poly at 2 p.m., also at La Mirada, in Division V.

Five county teams will play at Cal State Fullerton’s soccer stadium. Mater Dei’s boys’ team takes on Edison in Division II at 10 a.m., followed by the Esperanza boys against Temecula Valley in Division I at noon. At 2 p.m., Santa Margarita’s boys’ team plays La Verne Bonita in Division III.

The Capistrano Valley girls’ team wraps up the action with a game against defending champion Claremont in Division I at 6 p.m.
