For the third consecutive year, San Pedro and Chatsworth will play for the City Section girls’ soccer championship.

The teams meet Saturday at East Los Angeles College at 4 p.m.

Roosevelt, a 1-0 semifinal winner Wednesday over top-seeded Van Nuys Birmingham, will play Gardena, a 3-0 semifinal winner over Woodland Hills El Camino Real, in the boys’ championship game at 6.

Sun Valley Poly plays Reseda in the girls’ Invitational final at 2 p.m.

Chatsworth beat San Pedro, 3-1, two years ago at East Los Angeles College and last year at Birmingham, 1-0.

“We expect to win,” San Pedro Coach Gerhard Weber said of Saturday’s game. “We have a stronger team this year and the girls are looking forward to getting another chance to play Chatsworth.”

San Pedro (16-1-3) is led by senior forward Kathryn Bjazevich, freshman forward Caitlin Ursini and junior midfielder Laura Soto. The Pirates’ only loss came against West Torrance.

Hector Orellana scored for Roosevelt in the 23rd minute and the Roughriders hung on for the victory over Birmingham.

Rudolfo Corona scored two goals and Magdiel Bautista had another for Gardena in its victory over El Camino Real.

KLCS-TV will not broadcast the basketball or soccer finals because of “a funding issue this year,” said Janalyn Glymph, interim general manager of the public television station owned by the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Glymph said funds for the broadcasts are not a line item in the station’s budget. She said the January closure of the district’s office of support services, which had been funding the broadcasts, created the shortfall.

“We’re looking ahead to what events are coming up so we can seek funding,” she said.
