South Is Deep in County Players for Soccer All-Star Game

Sunday’s 24th High School Seniors All-Star games at Cal State Northridge will feature seven Orange County players who are competing in today’s Southern Section boys’ soccer finals.

That group includes Esperanza’s Sammer Mudawar, Edison’s Jeff Kunze and Devin Kato, Mater Dei’s Kevin Novak, Santa Margarita’s Spencer George and Estancia’s Irving Islas and Esaul Mendoza.

The South team, comprised entirely of county players, will face the North at noon. Other county players selected were: Irvine’s Matt Taylor, Huntington’s Beach Nick Schwab and Ryan Hopkins, Marina’s Steve Alvarado, Pacifica’s Blake Smith, Servite’s Matt Kubota, Cypress’ Sarand Kusnadi, Fountain Valley’s Chris Wimmer, San Clemente’s Bryce Sebastian and El Toro’s Cameron Rossi.

Fountain Valley’s Cliff McKinley and El Dorado’s Ignacio Cid were also picked by South Coach Bob Oseguera of Bell Gardens High, but they are unable to play because of injuries.

At 10 a.m., the East boys’ team will play the West.

The county’s girls will participate for the South team, coached by Canyon High’s Alex Camargo, in a 2 p.m. game against the East. The North plays the West at 4 p.m.

Capistrano Valley, which is competing in today’s Division I title game, will be represented by six players: Megan Abbamonto, Lindsay Greco, Laurel Allen, Jessica Allen, Janelle Hillseth and Sarah Banks.

Other county players participating are Woodbridge’s Sierra Cristiano, Emily Schwimmer, Veronica Martinez and Lauren Schick, Rosary’s Shauna Rech, El Modena’s Ashley Clift, Los Alamitos’ Lisa Morales, Santa Margarita’s Lauren Kent, Mission Viejo’s Erin Lowery and Aliso Niguel’s Corinn Nomad and Leigh Logsdon.

El Modena’s Vicki Bloom was also selected to the team but is unable to compete because of a knee injury.

General admission is $7.
