PREP SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS / GIRLS’ DIVISION I
Capistrano Valley (24-1) vs. Claremont (26-3-1)
6 TONIGHT CAL STATE FULLERTON
Capistrano Valley’s speed and ballhandling skills should carry the Cougars to their first (and long overdue) Southern Section title. The preseason favorites for the past five years, the Cougars appear primed to finally put it away. It’s going to take a huge defensive effort by defending champion Claremont to stop Capistrano Valley’s front six. Chardy Poole, a Parade magazine All-American, has moved to defense and will work with Janet Light to that end. The top-seeded Cougars have outscored their playoff opponents, 16-2. They are led by senior midfielder Megan Abbamonto (15 goals) and senior forward Lindsay Greco (14 goals).
