Focus Shifts to Storr After Fiset Put on Injured Reserve

Share

Jamie Storr faced the possibility of a playoff stretch run in goal for the Kings positively Monday.

“I want to be able to succeed as a goalie, playing 40-50 games a year,” said Storr, who had watched Stephane Fiset start six of the last seven games before suffering a groin strain in the second period of Saturday night’s 3-2 overtime win over Nashville.

Fiset was put on injured reserve Monday.

Storr has played in 31 games and has a 14-10-3 record, with a 2.70 goals-against average and a .903 saves mark. He has two fewer victories than Fiset in nine fewer games.

Storr is being thrown into a race in which the Kings are sixth in the Western Conference, but with little cushion for a playoff spot.

Storr will be backed up by Marcel Cousineau, who was recalled from Long Beach.

Murray and Dave Taylor, the King senior vice president and general manager, talked Sunday about trade possibilities and apparently concluded that they are negligible.

Several players--among them Tampa Bay’s Chris Gratton, Montreal’s Shayne Corson, Atlanta’s Kelly Buchberger and the New York Islanders’ Claude Lapointe--would seem to fit and are said to be available by the NHL rumor mill, but in each case the price is higher than the Kings are willing to pay.
