Golden West Tops Saddleback in Softball, 4-3

Susan Wilcox’s third-inning single drove in Dani Garcia, giving Golden West a 4-3 victory over Saddleback in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Tuesday.

Garcia hit a double and advanced to third on a single by Jen McCann.

Garcia and McCann each had two hits for Golden West (9-11, 2-4). Saddleback fell to 7-7-1, 4-4.

In Orange Empire Conference baseball:

Saddleback 13, Golden West 10--Trailing 10-9 going into the bottom of the eighth, Saddleback’s Josh Arhart scored the tying run on a wild pitch and pitcher Chad Cummings helped his cause by driving in two runs to break the tie.

Gerry Alesia had three hits and scored two runs for the host Gauchos (13-4-1, 3-3-1).

Santa Ana 14, Fullerton 7--Tony Calderon was four for four with two home runs, two RBIs and four runs scored. Teammate Jason Welch had three hits, including two home runs, and three RBIs and scored three runs.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s tennis:

Saddleback 9, El Camino 0--Brock Berry won his ninth consecutive singles match, 6-0, 7-5, for Saddleback (10-1). David DiMartino swept No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0 for the Gauchos.
